NEW SUBRCRIPTION BOX DELIVERS FAMILY TIME, UNPLUGGED

A new subscription box, Funplugit, helps families create fun, tech-free projects to encourage family bonding time away from technology. The founder, a working mother of three, found many art projects hard to pull off and difficult to plan and shop for. Funplugit is her solution – exactly the materials you need with easy to follow instructions and no time out for planning and preparing.

HOUSTON – A new monthly subscription box aims to help busy parents spend quality time with their children away from technology.

Funplugit sends parents a monthly art project, game, or science project to complete with their children. Each box contains instructions, the exact materials needed, and educational facts about the project—all conveniently delivered to the family’s doorstep.

The projects give parents a way to schedule screen-free time with their children without having to plan or shop for it.

“We are relying on technology more than ever –  for work, for our kids’ education, for relaxing, and entertainment purposes,” said co-founder Iman Houston Farrior, a mother of three daughters. “We wanted to give families an easy way to come together for some unplugged fun.”

Children in the United States spend, on average, six or more hours using technology daily. Despite growing evidence of the negative impact excessive screen time has on socialization and development, parents may find it difficult to plan regular tech-free activities that interest their children.

Funplugit boxes include unique kid-tested and kid-approved DIY creations like homemade soap, Mardi Gras masks, bird feeders, game boards, homemade lamps, musical instruments, magnetic slime, pen holders, piggy banks, kaleidoscopes, and dreamcatchers, to name a few. Unlike other products on the market, which simply give kids something to play with by themselves, Funplugit boxes are aimed bringing the family together to work as a team on a specific task.

The boxes include high-quality supplies and simple step-by-step instructions that result in less than a 1-hour time commitment from the family. Subscriptions begin at $20 monthly or $10 per box for bulk orders.

Funplugit was co-founded in 2016 by two Rice University MBA students Iman Houston Farrior and Corey Grodner. Iman, a graduate of Tulane University and The University of Texas School of Law, is aformer corporate lawyer and real estate broker. Corey, a graduate of Arizona State University, is a former market manager at Milwaukee Tool.
